They’re totally superficial given this is more of a pop-science article than a rigorous review of brain-simulating architectures. If you want a more in-depth review, I highly recommend reading “How to Build a Brain” by Chris Eliasmith.

I mention this in the article, that the brain does do some form of back-prop, but until we know the implementation details, assuming all forms of Deep Learning are totally valid seems a bit hasty.
